Can turmeric help weight loss?
Curcumin which is the active ingredient of turmeric could help in reducing inflammation levels, which could potentially help in some weight loss but as a whole, you wouldn't want to count on turmeric to help with weight loss. If you would be in a caloric surplus you can still gain weight with taking turmeric.
Be it Keto, Intermittent fasting, Atkins, OMAD, and excluding the hormonal stuff that each diet has. The diets would generally require a higher expenditure as compared to intake for it to work.
What you can do would be to keep track of what you have been eating for 2 weeks with something like a food diary, and if you were to make any changes see how it affects you.
Something that your friend could start with would be a task that they feel super confident in like 9/10 level of being able to do it, start with something small and eventually progress into the next item.
These would be my nutritional and lifestyle recommendations to help with regards to the changes that you can make and help with the maintenance of the weight loss.
Where would be your starting point, people who start off with higher body weight and body fat percentage would have a bigger drop in weight as compared to the drop in body fat percentage.
What is your current plan, would your nutrition and training plan be beneficial to your goal. An example would be you are trying to lose fat but you would not be doing much activity/exercise, or would you eat too much, with long rest times based on a program suited towards powerlifting.
Would stress levels be high as the stomach tends to be the place when cortisol is stored and when cortisol is too high for too long, it can increase the amount of fat you hold in your belly? Methods that help are Yoga, Walking, Meditation.
Would you be drinking alcoholic drinks, as that impacts weight/fat loss?
Would there be things that are constantly changing in the individuals life, as the goal is to have something that fits one's lifestyle preferences and be sustainable in the long run
Making sure that even though one is eating better/well and not over-consuming healthier foods like nuts, olive oil, avocado which have high calories for a small portion.
Find out what suits your lifestyle with regards to nutrition and training, foods, or dietary preferences, like a higher fat approach compared to low fat, etc...
Reduction of processed and sugared products would help in bringing your weight down and improve your health.
Make sure that you are hydrated and another benefit is that it might push you to use the bathroom more often, which makes you move more.
Consuming 5–7 servings of vegetables a day.
Getting a sufficient amount of sleep, as the lack of sleep may increase the opportunity for another meal and decrease hormonal production.
Having hobbies, getting to know people, reading books, stuff that doesn't require a computer or phone, and get to be outdoors.
If you would not be cooking, finding all the food-friendly places that are nearby, and try to have an alternative path back home if the usual path has a lot of food temptations.
Have alternatives to sugar cravings such as fruits, use (sugar-free jello, diet sodas and things like that as the extreme)
Incorporating and learning how to use the slow cooker as that saves time due to it being able to cook while sleeping.

People gain weight by consuming more energy than they burn, so consuming fewer calories, or energy, can help. However other factors play a role, genetic factors, metabolism, hormones, the type of food you eat, your body type, and lifestyle.
Obesity is known to create ongoing low-grade inflammation in the body which leads to further chronic diseases inclusive of diabetes and heart diseases. Turmeric’s anti-inflammatory and antioxidant mechanisms can alter signals at the cellular level and help avoid untimely health issues. Not only does it prevent insulin resistance mechanisms and other metabolic conditions related to obesity such as high cholesterol levels, but it also protects from untimely heart diseases and stroke.
The main life-saving ingredient in turmeric is about 3-5 % of Curcumin; a photo-derivative, which contains healing properties. However, because of the low percentage levels in standardized turmeric powder, it is difficult to reap all benefits by just taking turmeric in small doses, and thus supplements could be required. The benefits of Curcumin in weight management are detailed below:
Curcumin reduces inflammation – Obesity is known to be a pro-inflammatory condition and studies have been done that concluded that Curcumin directly interacts with cells to reduce inflammation and during this process, it helps in a reversal of insulin resistance, hyperglycemia, and other symptoms that often accompany obesity.
Curcumin helps with liver detoxification – The liver plays an important role in fat metabolism which in turn is very important in weight loss. Turmeric helps detoxify the liver and reverse cellular damage or scarring of the liver. Better functioning of the liver helps get rid of excessive fats.
Curcumin promotes thermogenesis – In the process referred to as thermogenesis, fat gets burnt by the central nervous system in order to maintain body temperature. Curcumin helps increase thermogenesis rate which then leads to a greater amount of fat getting burnt and thus encouraging weight loss.
Curcumin inhibits the growth of fat tissue – In our bodies, adipose tissues are responsible for the storage of fat cells and these adipose tissues get nutrients and oxygen through a process called angiogenesis. Curcumin has anti-angiogenic properties and thus helps inhibit fat tissue growth, and thus promoting weight loss

Yes, it does but not in a direct way. It helps in reducing the inflammation which makes your body recover from metabolic disorder or obesity. And makes your stomach healthy.
If you are asking about losing weight just by including a pinch of turmeric in each meal, then it's a big NO!
The only way which can help you lose weight is by tracking all the calories that you are eating in a day. It is very easy, you just need to install an application and track all the calories which you're eating throughout the day. And I would recommend you invest in a kitchen weighing scale, it is an indispensable part of the journey of one's weight loss.
I know at the beginning you might feel a little exasperated while calculating everything before you eat but this will only take a month or a fortnight for you to get an estimate of calories that you are getting from regular food that we eat on a daily basis. And the job is done. Now, you will be able to get a rough estimate even without using any application. CONGRATULATIONS!

No, turmeric, being water-insoluble, is even very badly taken up in our digestive system unless formulated in a very special way CAVACURMIN ® - Wacker Chemie AG
or when formulated as nanoparticles, see Oral Formulation for Enhanced Bioavailability
What did you expect? That without changing your lifestyle you could, by magic, taking turmeric, lose weight? Come on, be realistic, there are no foods that can do this, in spite of lots of unproven BS you can find all over the net.
I know, “traditional medicine” including 中医 hold many of such (alas, totally unproven) beliefs, in spite of in China people starting to do scientific studies, still too small of participants, methodology imperfect, so not yet very convincing, while Tu Youyou, the winner half the Nobel Prize for Physiology or Medicine 2015 has proven it can be done: developing the antimalarial artemisinin from a traditional Chinese medical shrub Artemisia annua 青蒿素
Weight loss for 75% is eating lots and lots less that is no snacking, no sugar, no sodas, little if any alcohol, little starchy stuff like potatoes/fries/chips/rice/bread/pasta/noodles/yams/corn, lots of nonstarchy veggies to start your meals with so you won’t go hungry.

Yes, curcumin (the active ingredient in turmeric) assists in weight loss in people with insulin resistance and abdominal obesity.
This is wonderful news because insulin resistance (also known as syndrome X) makes it especially hard to lose weight. People with insulin resistance tend to hold excess fat on their torso. They are at increased risk of developing polycystic ovarian syndrome and type 2 diabetes.
Curcumin also helps to improve insulin sensitivity, by lowering the amount of inflammation in the body. This is important because insulin is a fat-storage hormone. If you have a lot of it circulating in your bloodstream it makes it very difficult to lose weight. If you are trying to lose weight, getting your insulin down is very important because insulin resistance plays a key role in obesity, fatty liver, type 2 diabetes, and excess stubborn weight

The word is spelled like it sounds: “turmeric.” It’s a good anti-inflammatory, but it has little to do with weight loss, which is a matter of your overall food choices. My current diet advice describes in some detail the approach I worked out, along with the reasons for my choices. Take a look at that and see what you think.

Tumeric is a very effective supplement. Turmeric contains bioactive compounds which helps to reduce inflammation, heart disease, Arthritis, prevent cancer. Tumeric has a very powerful ingredient called ‘curcumin’, which helps to reduce inflammation, that could help you to reduce some weights but not much. I advise you to concentrate on your diet and activity level. Don’t go for one, go for a whole.
