Can food have an impact on chronic pain?

There's good evidence that many vertebral disk disorders are due to atherosclerosis blocking arteries and nutrient circulation.

There are diets known to reverse coronary atherosclerosis, namely a very-low fat whole plant based (vegan) diet. See the books by Drs. Dean Ornish or Caldwell Esselstyn for details. However I haven't seen any research on whether these diets might also improve lower back pain, the closest is this short-term complex intervention that included vegetarian diet:

Posture and core excercise so your muscle support and the weight and strain is less on the spine itself, gentle yoga, turmeric, omega 3s, other natural inflammatory could all be good.

I get hideous shoulder pain when I eat grains which complete abates within 2 days of avoiding them, try an elimination diet and a food diary too.

(Cylon) Cinnamon, turmeric and flex seeds have some anti-inflammatory properties. Actually many plants do but those are quite potent. Especially on turmeric there are a lot of recent studies on PubMed

As far as diet goes, do some research and start to add in/cut out things from your diet and document how you feel. Take advice from individuals that are highly qualified to give advice. Do your research (from credible sources) and seek professional help!!! I hope this helps in some way!

Like others said, fitness and strength are a component, but chronic inflammation for me has been the main root cause of a lot of chronic joint pain. Diet helps it for me.
